4 corners

4 Corners is a minimalist art-piece examining gun violence in Chicago. 4 blocks, 4 acts of gun violence. No context or discernible dialogue. Each murder, carried out calmly and casually, as we move from each story; a reflection of how we take in the news of these killings in modern day life. Much like the violence we see every day in Chicago, this film takes us through a sequence of murders that seem and feel pointless, hollow, and cold. We watch as one killing, starts a ripple effect throughout the community. One thing however is certain, there are no winners here, just losers. Highly influenced by Alan Clarke’s ‘Elephant’ (1989), The purpose of 4 Corners was to address “the elephant in room.” To present an issue at face value and address the need for change, without patronizing or trivializing the causes of said issue.
